The iPad has silenced many critics, exploding in popularity and selling more devices than expected. While I didn’t quite no how I’d be using my iPad before holding it my hands just one month ago, I’ve found myself playing more games than I’ve every played.
I’m more of a casual gamer. I prefer games such as RockBand, UFC Undisputed, Madden, etc. With that in mind, I’ve tried just about every popular and highly rated game in the App store. When deciding whether to purchase an app, I tend to rely on user ratings and reviews before making a final decision. This is why I like to show overall user ratings.
Plants vs. Zombies HD ($9.99) 5 Stars, 597 ratings
Plants vs. Zombies HD for the iPad is the most addictive game of the bunch. The game has a tower defense concept as you use an assortment of plants to defend the zombies from eating your brains. The iPad version features 18 min-games, 26 different types of zombies, 49 plants and 50 total levels of action in Adventure mode. I just beat this game, but still keep playing and now my wife and friends are hooked.

Angry Birds HD ($4.99) 4.5 Stars, 92 ratings
Angry Birds HD for the iPad lets you take revenge on the green pigs who stole your Birds’ eggs. There are an assortment of Angry Birds you catapult at the green pigs to destroy them and their castles. Each Angry Bird has a different skill, from the splitters to the bombers. There are 105 levels of play, which you’ll need to use logic, skill and Bird power to beat. I’m currently on the 33rd level, 3-11. It’s challenging, addictive and the sound of the Angry Birds and gameplay keep me thoroughly entertained.

10 Pin Shuffle Lite (FREE) or 10 Pin Shuffle ($3.99) 4 Stars, 145 ratings
This is my favorite multi-game I’ve tried thus far. The game has three different games in Bowling, Shuffleboard and 10 Pin Poker. You can play against the iPad, another player or join Peer-to-Peer. 10 Pin Shuffle takes advantage of the multi-touch, 3D graphics and beautiful iPad screen. It tracks your bowling statistics and is a blast to play with another person.

Pinball HD ($2.99) 4.5 Stars, 171 ratings
What I love about this game is it feels like you’re holding a pinball table in your hand. You get 3 pinball tables to choose from; Donkey Kong, Wild West and Deep. The graphics and design of each table are unique. Landscape mode shows a full table view, while portrait is a flying-table view with the camera panning and zooming over each action. It tracks local and global high scores and is beautiful on the iPad.

Labyrinth 2 Lite (FREE) or Labyrinth 2 HD ($7.99) 5 Stars
Want another highly addictive game? Labyrinth 2 HD has thousands of iPhone and iPod Touch levels to choose from. The game uses cannons, bumpers, multiple balls, magnets and more. You can play up to 4 player multi-player over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The 3D graphics and overall feel make this a truly amazing game.
While the 5 games above will give you plenty of entertainment and suck up quite a bit of your free time, I had to mention a few other games I truly love.
Cogs HD Lite (FREE) or Cogs HD ($4.99) 4.5 Stars, 56 ratings
Cogs HD is a puzzle game, which allows you to be an inventor putting together machines by moving blocks. Beautiful 2D and 3D graphics and fun gameplay.

Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior HD ($4.99) 4.5 Stars, 59 ratings
Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior brings 3D martial arts to the iPad. The game features stunning graphics, 5 modes of play and customizable fighting styles. With story mode, you guide Bruce Lee through 5 chapters. Think Street Fighter with multi-touch.

While these 7 games are my favorites, there are actually a few more I enjoy such as RealRacing HD, X-Plane-9, Chicktionary, JirboSays, GodFinger, PapiJump and Magic Piano. The bottom line is the iPad is loaded with great games already. The gaming is unbelievable and my favorite aspect of the device. Do you have any favorite games that I failed to mention? What’s your favorite?
