One of my absolute favorite websites is TheOatmeal.com. The Oatmeal takes random subjects and turns them into a hilarious and sometimes educational story by using comic strips. Comic strips creating is fun, but it don’t have to come at a price. Below, you’ll find five fun tools to create your very own comic strip. The tools are for all ages and requires no special skills, just you imagination. Enjoy!
ReadWriteThink
ReadWriteThink brings you this interactive comic strip creator that’s simple to use, but a bit limiting. You can choose the number of panels for your template and add a variety of people/animals, talk bubbles and props. You can then type in captions and text in the talk bubbles. You can’t use color, modify the drawings and the sharing is limited to printing, but it’s effective.

Toondoo
With Toondoo, you can drag and drop existing characters for your comic strips. The characters consist of different versions of emotions. Drag your character in the strip, color the background and add talk bubbles and text. You can flip, reverse and manipulate the characters and objects to your liking. Sharing is limited to publishing to other users of the site or keeping it private.

MakeBeliefcomix
MakeBeliefComix provides a choice of characters, along with different mood. Pick a character, choose a mood and add the character to the comic strip panel. You can then choose the background color and add text.

Strip Generator
Like the other comic strip tools, Strip Generator makes comic strip creating fun. Choose from random characters, pick some props, add text and create away.

Toonlet
Toonlet lets you create comic strips with characters you personally design. You begin with a character builder, which you edit to choose attributes such as hair, different body parts, clothes and more. After your characters are finished, you’ll be able to create different versions of the character by adding in emotions. After character creation, you’ll move onto the comic strip creator where you can add-in background colors, your characters and talk bubbles. Like a few other tools, Toonlet is limited in its sharing. You can only share on the Toonlet site.
