The Motorola Xoom is a sexy little device, no doubt! With a super-powerful dual-core 1 GHZ processor, the fascinating Honeycomb operating system (Android 3.0) and the 10.1″ high definition display, it’s a beautiful thing. Not to mention the 2 MP webcam, the 5 MP camera and the 720p HD video capture and playback (full list of specs). What’s not to like?
From Best Buy, the device will cost you $800. If this price is too steep, you can get locked into a two year contract with Verizon for $600. As big of a price difference this is, getting locked into the same tablet for two years could be a major mistake. As much as I love my iPad, I would never want to be stuck with a two year contract. Especially when the device is still so expensive.
The Motorola Xoom is sexy, without a doubt. It offers some features my iPad doesn’t. If you have your heart on buying a Motorola Xoom, don’t get trapped into the 24 month contract with Verizon. Either wait for the launch of the iPad 2, wait for the Wifi version of the Xoom or splurge with the carrier-free device through Best Buy.
Hopefully one day, we’ll have carrier-free phone and device. With technology changing so quickly, the days of the 24 month contracts and ridiculous cancellation fees are no longer reasonable.
