I finally did it! After debating whether to jailbreak my Verizon iPhone, which is stuck on 4.2.6, I finally decided it was time to get a little more out of the sexy little device. Having an Android phone, I became accustomed to the openness of the Android platform.
Now that I’ve finished the couple minute process to jailbreak the iPhone, I realized just how ridiculously easy the process is. Below, I’ll show you what you’ll need and provide the helpful video tutorial I used. After the tutorial, I’ll share the tweaks, apps and themes I’ve enjoyed the most thus far.
Tools You’ll Need
Device: Verizon iPhone 4.2.6
Software: Download Greenpoison RC5 b4
Tools: PC or a Mac, your iPhone running 4.2.6 and a USB cable
Steps
Before jailbreaking your phone, you may want to look over the steps to familiarize yourself a bit. It’s a very quick process with no pauses in between. When I tried to go through the process the first time, it didn’t work. However, upon reboot the phone was fine. I followed the same process again and it worked fine.
- Download GreenPois0n RC5 b4 from this software page
- Plug in your Verizon iPhone to a computer via the USB cable
- Launch GreenPois0n and click “Jailbreak”
- Follow the instructions that appear on your screen (this will place your iPhone into DFU mode)
- Press and hold the sleep button for 3 seconds
- Continue holding the sleep button while pressing the home button for 10 seconds
- Release the sleep button while still holding the home button for 10 seconds
- GreenPois0n will then install the software, which will take a few minutes
- Once it’s finished, find the “Loader” app on your device, then launch it and install “Cydia.”
- Reboot your device and your finished.
