If you’ve recently purchased an HP TouchPad at the bargain price, chances are you’re wanting to keep the price slim and not fork over a bunch of money for apps. After test driving several apps, I thought I’d share the handful of free ones that I find to be the absolute best. Though the HP App Catalog is only about 5500 apps deep, there are some high quality apps you’re going to love.
Upload, view and download files from your HP TouchPad with the free Box.Net account. You get a whopping 50GBs of free storage. Links can be shared via Instapaper, Email and Twitter.

USAToday
USAToday is the best way I’ve found to receive my news on the HP TouchPad. The app displays categorized tiles in News, Money, Sports, Life and Tech. Scroll left and right to browse the articles and tap an article to open.

Facebook Tablet
HP took great care in developing Facebook Tablet. This app blows all the Facebook iPad apps I’ve used out of the water. It’s slick and takes full advantage of the screen real estate with the use of multiple panes.

This app gives you instant access to stream thousands of local and global radio stations using your Wifi connection. You’ll find podcasts too.

The available games on the HP TouchPad could be greater, but you’ll be happy to know that the number one game, Angry Birds, is a free download.

This app is the best Twitter client I’ve found for the HP TouchPad. In addition to integrating your Twitter account, this app also incorporates your Identica.ca and StatusNet accounts. It’s also a bit of a control panel, letting you display multiple windows such as Twitter Home, Mentions, Messages and more in windows along side each other.
