RepliGo Reader

Though the Blackberry does a great job of allowing you to see mobile websites nicely, it still has a tough time reading PDF files. This app will allow you to save the PDF files on a media card and find words in the text by using the “find” feature. Though it is $19.99, it is still worth every penny. (Free to try, $19.99 to buy)

BigTin FaceCall

This is an Australian call back provider that will let you make long distance calls for a very cheap price. All you need to do is press the caller’s picture and you will be able to make a text message or place a call. This can prove to be very important for a businessman looking to really be more productive. (Free to download)

My Grocery Lists

This app will allow you to make the process of grocery shopping much easier by allowing you to make a list and have time go by much easier. There is also a calculator that will help you budget your grocery expenses and it is certainly a great app to have. ($4.99 to purchase)

Since being released six months ago in September of 2011, the Adobe Photoshop Express has invaded a mass of mobile gadgets, due to a combination of its zero cost [...]]]> It was inevitable that Adobe would release its own mobile application with the overwhelming amount of mobile gadgets nowadays such as the iPad, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the like.

Finally, an application that Graphic Designers can use on the go. Since being released six months ago in September of 2011, the Adobe Photoshop Express has invaded a mass of mobile gadgets, due to a combination of its zero cost (it’s free) and the preceding reputation of the word ‘Photoshop.’ But how good, really, is the product?

Also called PS Express, this app is easily downloadable in any app store to include the iTunes App Store. As previously mentioned, it’s free!

Clicking the icon, the main menu is simple; a dark background with only a few buttons that refer to the tutorial, a new project, or other recent projects already made. The features in the app are quite simple, with the word ‘express’ literally meaning the basic photo editing necessities such as the cropping tool, contrast adjustment, black and white effect, and an assortment of borders. For this reason, the mobile app is quite simple and user-friendly; certainly not similar to the complexities of the computer software. However, for the same reason, many customers are sorely disappointed since the original version offered a wide array of tools not present in PS Express.

Despite the simplicity, PS Express provides a ton of tutorials and tips – all of which are extremely useful. Even if you are a longtime user of the software, you’ll find value. PS Express makes a seamless transition, thanks to the redesigned interface and easy-to-follow in-depth instructions.

Anyone can create a master portrait. You can either take pictures from the PS Express photo library or by taking a picture on the spot. While the app is free to download, advanced features will cost you. For an in-app purchase of $3.99, a camera pack will add three additional features: first, a photo review option that allows you to decide whether or not to save the picture; second, a self-timer in shots where there is a lack of photographer; and lastly, a noise reduction filter useful in low quality pictures. This, lacks economic value when compared to other photo editing software and apps offering these features free.

You’ll need an internet connection to save your pictures to Photoshop.com. You can also email the saved photos – but that’s it, which is quite a letdown bearing in mind the immense potential of the Internet and technology. Also, most of the features present in PS Express are focused on the photography aspect of things. Adobe should utilize the fact that in touch gadgets, drawing and sketching is much easier; hence, they should think of expanding on this part of the app.

The Adobe Photoshop Express is not a revolutionary product like its computer counterpart. While the Adobe Photoshop became a household name with its wide expanse of editing potential, PS Express fails to distinguish itself from the rest of the mobile photo editing software – which is truly a disappointment, considering the prestige of the brand.

My hope is that some folks who think about investing in this program first search for this [...]]]> A few days ago, a friend of mine asked me if I heard about a new “money making site” that is full of positive reviews. The article he referenced was from a site call financial-reports.com.

In addition to exploring the article and helping out a friend, I thought I’d reveal what I found in researching the site/program further. My hope is that some folks who think about investing in this program first search for this article or other helpful articles outside the site/article I will be referencing below.

The Story

Pretty compelling article, especially with ALL the positive comments at the end of the article. The story goes like this….Kelly Richards  surfed the net and did long hours of research, discovering her “tight lip secret of getting a break in life and beating the recession.” By making $6K to $8K per month online, she could stay home with her three kids. She apparently makes this money while working 10-13 hours a week online.

Of course the article begs the reader to believe they are credible by mentioning all the other “get rich quick” scams on the internet and pyramid scams. Kelly did not want this, she wanted a legitimate way to earn her living.

The Search For Red Flags

So, that’s basically the story. Now, let’s look for the red flags. Let’s start with the article…

1. I noticed this “website” featuring the article also had Kelly Richards’ story in a YouTube video on their sidebar, then her “3 Easy Steps” in the section below. This led me to think, “was this site only built to display this one article?” That’s an awful lot of screen real-estate to give up for an advertorial.
2. The article has anchor text of “Home Profit System” not once, not twice, but five times. However, clicking the link will take you to a system called “Paid to Place.”
3. Clicking around the site on stuff like “Tech” or “All Stories” will lead you to one place, the program link.
4. Scrolling to the very bottom of the page will lead you to a difficult to read “light grey font” Terms and Conditions and Important Consumer Disclosure. I thought I’d make it stick out a little better by coloring it red.

Here’s a few highlights from their terms:

• We are not affiliated in any way with any news publication
• This website, and any page on the website, is based loosely off a true story, but has been modified in multiple ways including, but not limited to: the story, the photos, and the comments.

The “Home Profit System” Program Link

After finding all these red flags, I didn’t stop there. I thought, sure I’ll click the “Home Profit System” link (linked 5 times in this short article). Here is what the page leads me to. Note, how they put a face to the program and let you know that due to the “high demand” you better hurry up and give them your money before it’s sold out.

Once I clicked “Proceed to Site” I found the form below which wanted me to plug in my first name, email address and zip code. Of course this was necessary before I could click “Check Availability Now” because of the high demand of course. Once I clicked submit (I mean Check Availability), the site revealed 12 programs in my area and sent me to a page overloaded with information but no clear idea of what I’d be investing in.

Comments And Concerns From Users Of The Program

If something seems too good to be true, it typically is. Please be careful before giving sites like the one referenced your information and money.

Newer music of today tends to appeal more to the younger generation, but don’t count the old folks out. Either some of them enjoy the very music we listen to or (most likely) just enjoy poking fun at it.

Fortunately, the explosion of smartphones in recent years has yielded many amazing apps aimed at parents and childcare. I’m going to show you some of the best of the bunch, which help me raise my own toddlers.

Whether you’re a full-time or working mom (or dad!),these apps will help you entertain your child, find activities and places to go, and manage your responsibilities. My husband and I have found these apps indispensable on our T-Mobile Android phones, though most are also available on the iPhone.

Pandora (Free)

You probably already know about this wonderful streaming music service, but did you realize just how awesome it is for parents? Sure, there’s a lot of great children’s music you can buy, but Pandora offers variety and novelty to your child’s musical repertoire. Pandora is most famous for its “custom” stations, in which they play songs similar to a favorite artist. However, I also love its ready-made stations, including the awesome toddler station.

Play this at home on a speaker dock or plug it into your car’s system, and your kids will be soothed by the sounds of “Five Monkeys,” “Apples and Bananas,” and other kids favorites.

Mom Maps (Free or $2.99)

I’d love to say that my house is always a fun factory and my toddler never bores of her toys and games, but that’s just not true. Getting out is a must. Sometimes, we might go to the zoo or local children’s museum. But more often, I don’t have the time, money or inclination to go on a “big” trip. That’s why I use Mom Maps, which shows nearby playgrounds, parks, museums, restaurants. It also has an “Indoor Playareas” tab, perfect for hot or rainy days. I’ve discovered some cool spots right around the corner from me that I’d been ignoring all my child-free years.

Meetup (Free)

Meetup.com, as you may know, is an online community for people to form groups and organize events. It’s wildly popular for both professional development groups and parent groups. If you live in a decent-sized metro area, chances are you’ll find multiple parents groups using this app. My own neighborhood’s group is organized through Meetup, and the app helps me view and locate upcoming events.

Just in Timer (Free and $0.99)

This simple app allows you to create timers and save them for later use. As a parent to a very young child, this has many uses. From timing recipes (and being able to travel beyond earshot of your stove’s timer) to time-outs and even activities, I find all sorts of ways to make use of this app. No need to create a new timer each time.

Photo Grid (Free)

Like any parent, you’ll be snapping oodles of photos of your children and sharing them with your family. Why not add a little artistic touch? Photo Grid is a fun and easy-to-use collage maker. Simply choose a frame, and tap it’s panes to add photos from your library. I use this to create photo comparisons of my daughters at different ages and to mix in pictures of the whole family.
