You pick up the item and consider purchasing it until you notice the price tag. Although you can’t be sure, you could’ve sworn you saw the same game for less at Wal-Mart. In the past, you would’ve had to leave the store and travel to Wal-Mart to check the price or simply buy the game and be out the money. Luckily, with the advent of smartphones and tablets, you can now use apps to price check items wherever you are.

Here are some of the top apps that help you check and compare prices.

Price Check by Amazon (iOS and Android)

If you’ve ever shopped the online retail giant, Amazon, then you know what great prices are offered through the store. This free app is available on both Apple and Android devices and makes searching prices in store a cinch. With four ways to look up products (barcode scanner, photo search, voice search and text search), you’ll be able to quickly and easily compare the price of the product with Amazon.com and its various merchants. (Free)

ShopAdvisor (iOS and Android)

ShopAdvisor expands upon the capabilities of the Amazon.com Price Check app by including a large range of utilities and more retail locations. Once installed on your Apple or Android device, you’ll have access to a built-in barcode scanner. While in store, simply scan the product’s barcode and see prices from online and local stores. You’ll be given a list of stores where the product is on sale and can also receive an alert when the price drops. The app is free and also provides links to manuals and guides for the products. (Free)

BarCode Scanner (Android)

This free app can scan more than simply barcodes. It also has the capacity to scan Data Matrix and QR Codes as well. The comparison prices are taken from Google product search results. Reviews about the product also appear on screen. This is a no frills price checker that is simple to use and doesn’t require advanced navigation through the app. (Free)

Grocery Pal (iOS)

This free app for the iPhone or iPad informs you of both the sale items and coupons available at local grocery stores on a weekly basis. Featured stores include CVS, K-Mart, Stop and Shop, Wal-Mart and Albertsons. On this app, you’re able to compare product prices across multiple stores. You can build and save lists in the app in order to track sale items and organize items based on aisles. (Free)

Google Shopper (Android)

This Android based app is free and considered one of the best comparison shopping applications currently available. Although like most price checker apps a barcode scanner comes standard, it also has the ability to analyze the covers of books, CDs, DVDs and video games in order to locate the product. You’ll then be provided with both a list of local retail prices and online prices. If you choose a local store to buy the product, the app provides you with contact details and directions. Product reviews and specifications are also listed as part of the product search. (Free)

Try out multiple apps to find the ones you like the best. If the app seems buggy or only provides a limited number of stores to compare prices at, you’ll easily be able to find alternatives. Also, there’s no need to pay for a price comparison app. The majority of developers will offer up the app for free.

What’s your favorite price comparison app?

About the Author

Lisa is an avid yoga enthusiast who enjoys writing in her spare time for <a

However, most people have no idea which apps are the best and may be unaware of some of the great BlackBerry apps that can greatly enhance their productivity. If you are looking to improve your productivity, you’ll want to break out your BlackBerry and try these apps out.

File Manager Pro – Zip and File Utility

This is the perfect app for those that need to send and receive files and are not able to use a computer. By zipping the files, it will then allow you to unzip the file and open it on your Blackberry. The app will also help you organize your files and it is very worth the $4.99 that it will cost you. However, there is a 7 day trial period so that you can realize just how important it is. It was developed by TerraMobility and it is by far one of the most needed apps on the Blackberry. (app. This is for those that hate random phone calls or texts that are simply unwanted. This app will help you prioritize the calls and texts that you receive, while avoiding those spammy phone calls. You will only get phone calls and texts from people you expect to get them from. This is important for those that get a lot of random unwanted calls throughout the day. This app was created by REXwireless. (<a

This app will allow you to save the PDF files on a media card and find words in the text by using the “find” feature. Though it is $19.99, it is still worth every penny. (<a

Though the first gen iPad is still a great device, I moved on to the iPad 2, then couldn’t resist jumping in to grab the third gen iPad. In my exploration for the perfect iPad apps, I’ve downloaded far more than necessary and wasted more than one iTunes gift card on apps I paid for and ultimately uninstalled.

I’ve tried to continually purge iPad apps I don’t use, but a quick glance in iTunes shows I still have 95 apps installed. Overall, I’ve installed 875 iPad Apps and even more iPhone Apps.

While a few have changed the way I operate on a daily basis, most haven’t made the cut. Today, I want to highlight my three must-have apps that have blown the other 872 I’ve worked with. While everyone tends to have a different must-have iPad App list these days, I couldn’t help with sharing my excitement for the following apps that are pretty perfect for me.

Spotify

Free to download, but requires $9.99 premium Spotify subscription

Purged Apps: Stock Music App (with iTunes Match), Pandora and Rdio

Since subscribing to the Spotify premium service ($9.99 per month), I’ve dumped all the music I’ve collected over the last 10 years. Before Spotify, I had a nice system that enabled me to collect over 175GBs of music, legally. I would dump all my music files in iTunes, then rate the music I wanted to keep 3 or more starts, while dumping the 1 and 2 star rated music. Not only was this time consuming, but took the joy out of listening to music since it seemed a bit like a chore to keep up.

With Spotify, I can stream what I want, when I want it. I have playlists for anything and everything really. The desktop app is really where it’s at, thanks to some pretty amazing built in apps that include personal favorites Soundrop, Top 10 and Billboard Top Charts. These apps have helped me find some fantastic music I previously was unaware of. In addition, I no longer need a 64GB iPad since music now takes up zero space on my iPad. That’s the beauty of streaming.

Now, on to the brand new Spotify iPad App. Until the recent launch of the Spotify iPad app, I’ve been pretty frustrated with Spotify dragging their feet in launching this app. Even so, I made do with the blown up version of the Spotify iPhone App. Now that I’ve had a chance to log some hours on the iPad optimized app, I think Spotify has been waiting to get it just right.

The app looks great on my device and has some solid features and functionality. The search function is ideal, offering categorized results in Best Match, Artists, Albums, Playlists and Tracks. Artist pages are also pretty sweet, giving you a bio of the artist, related artists, top hits and albums they appear on so you can fully explore each artist while adding tracks and albums to playlists along the way. Another aspect I love is how the app displays and lets you work with your playlists.

Though the service and desktop app is pretty perfect for me, the iPad App could use some improvements. In the “What’s New” section, you’ll get personalized recommendations, trending playlists (among friends) and top tracks (among friends). The section also displays 20 New Releases, trending playlists (near you) and Top Tracks (near you). So, the app is trying to be a little overly social in my opinion, but only gives you 5 results in each, without the ability to scroll for more. I’d like this section to be enhanced to display the top overall tracks, albums and playlists, along with functionality to view by genre. I’m not as interested in what’s popular locally or among my friends as I am in the overall picture among Spotify users.
<p

Perhaps the popularity of the app turned me off a bit. Or perhaps it was the brilliance of Zite that kept me satisfied for quite some time. I still love Zite, but the inability to add my own sources (mainly from local news sites), had me searching for something more.

What drew me into Flipboard was the launch of the Flipboard iPhone App. The Flipboard iPhone App is pretty fantastic. It looks great and lets me quickly flick through all the stories I want. Enough about the iPhone app, let’s talk about the brilliant Flipboard iPad App.

The true beauty of Flipboard to me was through the Google Reader and Twitter/Facebook/Instagram integration. After setting up all my favorite feeds into categorized folders in Google Reader, I added each individual folder into Flipboard. Then I added two of my Facebook groups as individual pages, a few Twitter lists and finally some pretty sweet Flipboard sections like What’s Hot, Flipboard Picks, Viral Videos and Popular in Curators.

The ability to read latest articles and news in a highly organized and personalized way, is impressive. Further more, it looks amazing flipping through in the nice, clean magazine-like view. The method of sharing to Facebook and Twitter is also pretty seamless. I could go on and on about Flipboard, but I’ll stop. Just download it already.
<p

After years of subpar Garmin and Tom Tom units I’d purchase and affix to my dashboard, this app has single handedly given me the freedom to pitch my units, making the need to purchase over-priced map upgrades a thing of the past.

The app is very user friendly and sports an impressive interface with 3D, 2D Road, Aerial, Hybrid and Traffic map views. Live predictive and real-time traffic gives you the quickest routes, helping you to avoid accidents and traffic jams. If looking at a map view isn’t your thing, you can simply switch to the Directions List (Mapquest-style). The app even has a really cool compass. Yep, it’s loaded!

GPS Drive HD has some great search options too. Type in an address, search on Wikipedia, find a stop by category or even choose an address from your contact list. Want more? How about the ability to simply just click a button to Tweet your travels, i.e., “I’m headed to Starbucks. I’m currently 0.2 miles away. My ETA is 10:10pm.” Plus, the ability to include an iPod widget onscreen to play tracks and playlists. Yep, pretty cool!

Graphic Designers can use on the go. Since being released six months ago in September of 2011, the Adobe Photoshop Express has invaded a mass of mobile gadgets, due to a combination of its zero cost (it’s free) and the preceding reputation of the word ‘Photoshop.’ But how good, really, is the product?

Also called PS Express, this app is easily downloadable in any app store to include the iTunes App Store. As previously mentioned, it’s free!

Clicking the icon, the main menu is simple; a dark background with only a few buttons that refer to the tutorial, a new project, or other recent projects already made. The features in the app are quite simple, with the word ‘express’ literally meaning the basic photo editing necessities such as the cropping tool, contrast adjustment, black and white effect, and an assortment of borders. For this reason, the mobile app is quite simple and user-friendly; certainly not similar to the complexities of the computer software. However, for the same reason, many customers are sorely disappointed since the original version offered a wide array of tools not present in PS Express.

Despite the simplicity, PS Express provides a ton of tutorials and tips – all of which are extremely useful. Even if you are a longtime user of the software, you’ll find value. PS Express makes a seamless transition, thanks to the redesigned interface and easy-to-follow in-depth instructions.

Anyone can create a master portrait. You can either take pictures from the PS Express photo library or by taking a picture on the spot. While the app is free to download, advanced features will cost you. For an in-app purchase of $3.99, a camera pack will add three additional features: first, a photo review option that allows you to decide whether or not to save the picture; second, a self-timer in shots where there is a lack of photographer; and lastly, a noise reduction filter useful in low quality pictures. This, lacks economic value when compared to other photo editing software and apps offering these features free.

You’ll need an internet connection to save your pictures to Photoshop.com. You can also email the saved photos – but that’s it, which is quite a letdown bearing in mind the immense potential of the Internet and technology. Also, most of the features present in PS Express are focused on the photography aspect of things. Adobe should utilize the fact that in touch gadgets, drawing and sketching is much easier; hence, they should think of expanding on this part of the app.

The Adobe Photoshop Express is not a revolutionary product like its computer counterpart. While the Adobe Photoshop became a household name with its wide expanse of editing potential, PS Express fails to distinguish itself from the rest of the mobile photo editing software – which is truly a disappointment, considering the prestige of the brand.

About the author:

Alexis Thompson is a former Mountain Backpacker and a 26 year old mother of 2 daughters, Sophie and Rhian. The article he referenced was from a site call financial-reports.com.

In addition to exploring the article and helping out a friend, I thought I’d reveal what I found in researching the site/program further. My hope is that some folks who think about investing in this program first search for this article or other helpful articles outside the site/article I will be referencing below.

The Story

The title of the article was Single Mom Makes $89,844/Yr in Her Spare Time on The Computer Without Selling Anything. Here is the link to the site if you are curious. http://financial-reports.org/biz/us/?&t202id=300008&t202kw=bo0014&match&c3&ne

Pretty compelling article, especially with ALL the positive comments at the end of the article. The story goes like this….Kelly Richards surfed the net and did long hours of research, discovering her “tight lip secret of getting a break in life and beating the recession.” By making $6K to $8K per month online, she could stay home with her three kids. She apparently makes this money while working 10-13 hours a week online.

Of course the article begs the reader to believe they are credible by mentioning all the other “get rich quick” scams on the internet and pyramid scams. Kelly did not want this, she wanted a legitimate way to earn her living.

The Search For Red Flags

So, that’s basically the story. Now, let’s look for the red flags. Let’s start with the article…

I noticed this “website” featuring the article also had Kelly Richards’ story in a YouTube video on their sidebar, then her “3 Easy Steps” in the section below. This led me to think, “was this site only built to display this one article?” That’s an awful lot of screen real-estate to give up for an advertorial.

The article has anchor text of “Home Profit System” not once, not twice, but five times. However, clicking the link will take you to a system called “Paid to Place.”

Clicking around the site on stuff like “Tech” or “All Stories” will lead you to one place, the program link.

Scrolling to the very bottom of the page will lead you to a difficult to read “light grey font” Terms and Conditions and Important Consumer Disclosure. I thought I’d make it stick out a little better by coloring it red.

Here’s a few highlights from their terms:

We are not affiliated in any way with any news publication

This website, and any page on the website, is based loosely off a true story, but has been modified in multiple ways including, but not limited to: the story, the photos, and the comments.

Thus, this page, and any page on this website, are not to be taken literally or as a non-fiction story

And of course, here is all the stuff (still in light grey font, but in all caps) that you are agreeing to by purchasing the program mentioned from the site…

I UNDERSTAND THIS WEBSITE IS ONLY ILLUSTRATIVE OF WHAT MIGHT BE ACHIEVABLE FROM USING THIS/THESE PRODUCTS, AND THAT THE STORY/COMMENTS DEPICTED ABOVE IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.

As an advertorial, I UNDERSTAND THIS WEBSITE IS ONLY ILLUSTRATIVE OF WHAT MIGHT BE ACHIEVABLE FROM USING THIS PROGRAM, AND THAT THE STORY DEPICTED ABOVE IS NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY.

Typical users of the starter materials that don’t enroll in coaching, don’t keep their commitments and don’t implement what they learn, generally make no money.

The comments are not actual posts to this webpage and have been compiled or generated for illustrative purposes only.

The “Home Profit System” Program Link

After finding all these red flags, I didn’t stop there. I thought, sure I’ll click the “Home Profit System” link (linked 5 times in this short article). Here is what the page leads me to. Note, how they put a face to the program and let you know that due to the “high demand” you better hurry up and give them your money before it’s sold out.

Once I clicked “Proceed to Site” I found the form below which wanted me to plug in my first name, email address and zip code. Of course this was necessary before I could click “Check Availability Now” because of the high demand of course. Once I clicked submit (I mean Check Availability), the site revealed 12 programs in my area and sent me to a page overloaded with information but no clear idea of what I’d be investing in.

So, the page listed the program for a “special reduced” and “one-time investment” of $97. Wait, what would I be buying again?

Comments And Concerns From Users Of The Program

Just for fun, I did a Google search on “Paid to Place” to get an idea of what others were writing about it and to really dig in and see comments from those who have been duped. Here’s what I found…

First, I clicked on their Facebook page, which they created and haven’t really touched since other than a “we’re excited to hear your success stories” post after creating the page in July. Well, you won’t find any success stories on their page, but plenty of concerns that aren’t addressed.

The resource that is a must read for those looking at the program is at Reviewopedia. You HAVE to read the comments on this article, which tell you everything you need to know about this site from those who purchased, those interested and even from the perspective of a few folks that work for Paid to Place.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the comments at Reviewopedia…

“I was also asked several questions about my financial status, what type of credit cards I have, how much are on them, how much I have in my bank accounts. When I asked why the questions, I was told, ‘ it’s so we can determine how much this program can really help you…..The clincher came when I was told that one of the finest website trainers around, would call me to train me for the position, but that I would have to put down an investment of about $5000 right now.”

“I first spent $47.00 for this program, then spent $77.00 for this same program. I still have received no training (as promised) Can’t sign in as there is no sign in page. I have contacted Kathy numerous times and have had several goose chases. I would appreciate some acknowledgement or a total refund.”

With that said, there is also Paid to Place reps commenting in response to some of the comments. One positive from the comments have been about the refunds. It seems overall, they seem to be pretty good about giving refunds.

If something seems too good to be true, it typically is. Please be careful before giving sites like the one referenced your information and money.
<div

Perhaps it’s to get a screencap for an upcoming blog post or maybe to capture an error you are seeing on your computer for tech support. There are multiple reasons why this may come in handy.

While you won’t find a printscreen button on your Mac, there is a way to get your screencap without using any additional Mac Application.

Here are the simple steps to follow to get your screencap (print screen)

1. Press the ⌘ + Shift + 3 key all at the same time

2. You’ll find the print screen on your desktop titled something like “Screen Shot 2012-04-27 at 10.44.15 AM”
<p

If you want to edit the picture, you can launch it in the built in “Preview” application and perform basic editing such as cropping the pic (Tools -> Crop or command + K) or resizing it (Tools -> Adjust Size).

If you want to perform more editing than Preview provides, I recommend checking out <a

Fortunately, the explosion of smartphones in recent years has yielded many amazing apps aimed at parents and childcare. I’m going to show you some of the best of the bunch, which help me raise my own toddlers.

Whether you’re a full-time or working mom (or dad!),these apps will help you entertain your child, find activities and places to go, and manage your responsibilities. My husband and I have found these apps indispensable on our T-Mobile Android phones, though most are also available on the iPhone.

Pandora (Free)

You probably already know about this wonderful streaming music service, but did you realize just how awesome it is for parents? Sure, there’s a lot of great children’s music you can buy, but Pandora offers variety and novelty to your child’s musical repertoire. Pandora is most famous for its “custom” stations, in which they play songs similar to a favorite artist. However, I also love its ready-made stations, including the awesome toddler station.

Play this at home on a speaker dock or plug it into your car’s system, and your kids will be soothed by the sounds of “Five Monkeys,” “Apples and Bananas,” and other kids favorites.

Mom Maps (Free or $2.99)

I’d love to say that my house is always a fun factory and my toddler never bores of her toys and games, but that’s just not true. Getting out is a must. Sometimes, we might go to the zoo or local children’s museum. But more often, I don’t have the time, money or inclination to go on a “big” trip. That’s why I use Mom Maps, which shows nearby playgrounds, parks, museums, restaurants. It also has an “Indoor Playareas” tab, perfect for hot or rainy days. I’ve discovered some cool spots right around the corner from me that I’d been ignoring all my child-free years.

Meetup (Free)

Meetup.com, as you may know, is an online community for people to form groups and organize events. It’s wildly popular for both professional development groups and parent groups. If you live in a decent-sized metro area, chances are you’ll find multiple parents groups using this app. My own neighborhood’s group is organized through Meetup, and the app helps me view and locate upcoming events.

Just in Timer (Free and $0.99)

This simple app allows you to create timers and save them for later use. As a parent to a very young child, this has many uses. From timing recipes (and being able to travel beyond earshot of your stove’s timer) to time-outs and even activities, I find all sorts of ways to make use of this app. No need to create a new timer each time.

Photo Grid (Free)

Like any parent, you’ll be snapping oodles of photos of your children and sharing them with your family. Why not add a little artistic touch? Photo Grid is a fun and easy-to-use collage maker. Simply choose a frame, and tap it’s panes to add photos from your library. I use this to create photo comparisons of my daughters at different ages and to mix in pictures of the whole family.

<a
