href="http://www.chitchat.org.uk/english/articles/using-your-blackberry-on-facebook/">Facebook on the Blackberry.

In Windows 7, Microsoft has made it possible to compare the performance of your computer against a common standard. It’s called the Windows Experience Index, or WEI. This article will explain why it might be useful to know your computer’s WEI and show you where to find it.

Have you ever looked at the list of hardware requirements on a box of software and been completely baffled as to whether your computer met all of the requirements on the list? Even techies can struggle to remember all of those numbers if they have more than one computer to deal with. Well, here comes the WEI to the rescue.

The whole idea of the Windows Experience Index is to give you one number to remember for each computer. The WEI is generated by evaluating the performance of a computer’s CPU, memory, graphics processor, and primary hard disk. Windows 7 will then take the score of the lowest performing component and assign that as the computer’s WEI.

Software companies are now expected to determine the lowest WEI score their software will work with and put it on their packaging along with the hardware requirements. Then, you just have to compare their WEI with yours.

Here’s how you can find your computer’s WEI:

Click Start.

Right-click Computer.

Select Properties. Your System window should open and display a white number on a blue background in the middle. That is the computer’s WEI:

The phrase in blue, “Windows Experience Index,” is actually a link. If you click it, you can view the individual scores of the key system components from which the WEI was derived:

If you’ve made any key hardware changes since the date of the last update shown at the bottom (or don’t yet have a WEI), you should re-run the assessment (click the link in the bottom right with as few programs running as you can manage).

You can see in the image above that the WEI was determined by the lowest score, that of the primary hard disk. This will normally be the case unless one of the other components is much older.

If you have a component that scores lower than the primary hard disk, or is significantly lower than you think it should be, you might consider upgrading that component and re-running the assessment.

Knowing your computer’s WEI can help you in two ways: it can help you determine if you can run a new software package, and it can help you identify key system components that you might want to upgrade. So what’s your WEI?

Today’s post is a guest post by Gary Roy. Gary Roy writes about using Facebook Chat at work, and the Facebook IM Chit Chat for Facebook.

About ten years ago there were lots of stories in the media about the proliferation of the Internet and how having access at the workplace would create a huge productivity drain. The premise was that everyone would be surfing online and no work would get done. It seems that, at least in the minds of these writers, productivity is equated with always working rather than getting the necessary work done. There’s a definite difference in those two concepts.

Around the same time, several studies were conducted that concluded workers who engage in a moderate amount of surfing or personal computer time at work are actually happier and MORE productive. For one thing, these occasional ‘mental breaks’ allow them to get back to their work more refreshed and with a clearer perspective. For another, by taking care of certain personal matters online, while at work, these employees were more likely to stay later on the job, without the need to rush out and handle personal things as soon as the official workday ended.

Facebook at Work

There are definitely two sides to the question of whether employees should be able to use company time for personal computer use, and the controversy continues. Now, with the advent of so many social networks like Facebook and mySpace popping up, the temptation to engage in other than work related activities while on the clock are even greater. Some companies (and schools) have even taken to locking out these sites for fear that loss of productivity will be too great. Maybe they’re right, maybe not, but the boss is the boss so what can you do?

Chatting At Work

People love to chat, whether it’s out in the smoke-break area, at the water cooler or online. There are lots of instant messengers available to make keeping in contact easy and immediate, so chatting on office computers has become very popular in the last few years.

Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Windows IM and others dominated this field for some time, but lately more and more people are using the new chat function available on their Facebook account. Facebook has become VERY popular of late, boasting a membership of several hundreds of millions of members worldwide, many of whom are finding the new chat they have available to be a convenient way to reach their friends.

But there is a problem inherent with this system. In order to chat with Facebook you’re required to log on to their site and stay there. This is sometimes not practical when at work (or elsewhere, for that matter). What if the boss walks by your desk and sees Facebook open when you’re supposed to busy doing something important for the company?

Facebook Instant Messaging (IM)

Enter a new Facebook IM from a company called Chit Chat for Facebook. Their program enables you to chat with all your Facebook friends at will, but without logging onto the site or even opening a browser. Stealth chatting – I like it! The program runs in the background of whatever you’re working on at the time, but alerts you when any of your friends are available to talk. Then contacting them is just a click away. Try it. You’ll like it.

Facebook Messenger

Chit Chat for Facebook Chat – An Insiders Report

Over the past year, chances are you’ve noticed that an increasing amount of your friends are using Facebook not just for sharing photos, updating their status and sending Facebook mail messages, but also for Facebook Chat instant messaging.

Facebook Chat is excellent for keeping in touch with friends past and present, however, there are a number of things that I simply don’t like about ordinary Facebook Chat.

Things I Don’t Like About Facebook Chat

Firstly, you need to use a web-browser in order to use Facebook Chat – I much prefer to be able to browse the internet checking out the latest technology news rather than watch my browser for a message from a Facebook friend.

Secondly, I like to be able to have the instant messages that I’ve sent and received automatically saved. I guess that’s a habit from school, doing group work.

Desktop Facebook Messaging

Chit Chat for Facebook as a great new way to use Facebook Chat. It’s a desktop instant messenger, much like Windows Live Messenger or AIM. Therefore, you can now use Facebook Chat without having to use your web-browser.

Benefits of Chit Chat for Facebook

Free Your Web Browser- Send Facebook Chat instant messengers from your desktop

Chat History – Chit Chat saves your messages so you don’t have to

Instant Message Notifications – Flashes the task bar when you have received a Facebook Chat instant message

Tabbed Interface – Simple to use, tabbed interface, talk with many friends at the same time in the same Instant Message Window

Wall To Wall Posts – Send Facebook wall posts

Send Facebook Messages – Send Facebook email messages with Chit Chat

Chit Chat for Facebook – Tips and Tricks

Chit Chat for Facebook does a few neat clever things.

Send Many Facebook Wall Posts/Emails At Once

If you press Ctrl on your keyboard whilst clicking on the buddy list you are able to select many Facebook Friends at the same time. With a right click you can then send an identical wall post to all of those friends or an email.
<p
