style="text-align: justify;">Turning on the radio these days is like Ground Hogs Day. Well, perhaps it’s always been that way with a small collection of songs that get played over and over and over again until you’re completely sick of hearing them. If you’re like me, you want to hear some new stuff that may or may not find its way on your radio. While many have transitioned to listening to their iPod and music player, as opposed to the radio, I’ve got 10 awesome sites you’re going to want to check out.

Some of the music you’ll find in the sites below will blow you away. Check it out.

Deezer - Deezer provides instant access to 7 million tracks, with themed radio, artist news/albums/tracks, playlist sharing, personalization and the ability to watch videos and find new artists.

Grooveshark - Grooveshark lets you search, stream and upload music free. The recommendation system is cool, similar to Pandora, but with a smiley face or sadpanda rather than the thumbs up or thumbs down approach.

The Hype Machine – The Hype Machine is an MP3 Aggregator. It’s a “one stop shopping of postings from thousands of MP3 Blogs,” according to Wikipedia. It displays the latest songs from the top 25 blogs and consistently updates the entries and songs onto it’s site.

Jamendo - Jamendo is a community of free, legal and unlimited music published under Creative Commons licenses. Share your music, download your favorite artists!

Last.fm - Last.fm is an internet radio site that claims to have over 21 million users. They use a music recommendation system called an Audioscrobbler and build a detailed profile of each user’s taste, based on the songs you choose. They have social networking features and you can save playlists and share once you register.

Musicovery: Interactive WebRadio – Musicovery is interactive and customized so you can find music based on which type of mood you are in. According to Wikipedia, this is a good site to find rare and undiscovered music. The more you listen and rate songs, the more personalized it gets. You can just choose the genre of music, 80′s/90′s/etc. and mood. It will then show a graphical mapping display of the songs that will play.

Pandora - Just type in an artist or song you like and Pandora responds by playing similar music. You can give feedback by approving a thumbs up or down and Pandora takes it into account for future songs. You need to register to save your playlists that Pandora creates.

Pitchfork – Pitchfork is a really cool guide to independent music, news, music discovery, album reviews and so much more.

TheSixtyOne - This site gives new artists the ability to upload and share their work and let you decide if you like it. You then have the ability to purchase their albums and merchandise within the site. This site is great for new artists in that they receive atleast $7 per album, as opposed to record labels.

Songza: The Music Search Engine & Internet Jukebox - Songza is a big internet search engine that plays the songs and artists you type in by searching files on the net and playing them. It’s not an internet radio station, it specifically plays what you request. You can still rate songs, create playlists and share them.

Did I miss any of your favorite sites? Which sites do you use for discovering new music?

With the special presentation of the new Apple iPad today, I felt compelled to post a hands-on video, that highlights some of the coolest features of the new device. While watching Steve Job’s presentation was pretty cool, I found the Engadget hands-on video to be a little more helpful and interesting. The coolest aspect I’ve seen thus far has been the eBook implementation, which you have to see in the video below.

As referenced on Engadget, “It starts at $499 for 16GB, 32GB for $599, and $699 64GB. Adding 3G costs a $130 per model, so the most expensive model (64GB / 3G) is $829. The WiFi-only model will ship in 60 days, and the 3G models will come in 90.”

<param

Is it a disapointment? Do you see yourself purchasing one? Though I’d love to have one, I think I’ll hold off until I have $500 or so to spare.

Ever needed to convert your video to iPod format or maybe a Word Document to a PDF? There are countless other files we deal with on a daily basis, but are reliant on which file format our mobile browser supports, the version of Office we have installed in our PC, etc. There are countless reasons we need to have file conversion utilities at our fingertips.

One thing I personally hate is being required to register for a site, prior to using a service. It typically leads to me receiving more e-mails I had zero interest in reading the first place. What’s great about the tools below is that none of them require software downloads or registration.

Keepvid – This site is a bit different from the others. Find a video link, plug it in, click the download button, then choose your video quality (flv, mp4, iPod). It’s user friendly and a very useful tool for downloading videos from sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, and several other video hosting sites.

Media-Convert – No downloads or registration required. Convert by uploading a file from your computer or typing in the URL of the file, choose your file format and click submit. The site supports a wide range of formats and also provides additional advanced settings.

YouConvertIt Beta - Like the others, this sites requires no registration. You have tabs to Convert Files or Convert Videos. You have to provide your e-mail address, upload a file, the format you want converted, then click the Convert button. YouConvertIt then converts the file for you, then e-mails you with a download link once completed.

Zamzar – Free Online File Conversion – No downloads or registration required. Transform your songs, videos, images and documents into several different formats. This tool is very useful. There is no need to download anything, just select the file or URL to convert (up to 100MB), use the dropdown button to select the format you want, enter your e-mail address (where you’ll receive the converted file) and click the convert button. Pretty easy and the best part is that it’s free.

What do you think of the online file converters? Did I miss any tools you find valuable? Speak your mind. Let me know what you think.
<div
